Kalpetta: National Human Rights Commission has recommended removal of asbestos roof tops from school buildings as it creates serious healthy hazards, including cancer, in children. The NHRC team, led by Sathyabrada Pal, visited schools in Wayanad. They visited the LP School in Kaipanchery, Sulthan Bathery and inspected registers, class rooms, toilets, kitchen and held talks with PTA members. They also visited anganwadis here and at Naykatti and Muthanga.
They observed that the quality of management of basic facilities have improved in anganwadis. They expressed apprehension over not ensuring good health condition of kids coming from forest ranges like Muthanga.
